Collection inspirée de femmes, fictives ou historiques qui, à tord ou à raison, ont suscité accusations et calomnies et marqué l’Histoire ou les histoires par leur personnalité sulfureuse…
Galadriel est une Elfe de père ñoldorin et de mère telerine. Son ascendance est également en partie vanyarine par sa grand-mère paternelle Indis, de qui lui vient sa chevelure blonde, en laquelle les Eldar voient un reflet de la lumière des Arbres de Valinor. Cela inspire peut-être à Fëanor la création des Silmarils, joyaux dans lesquels est conservée la lumière des Arbres, après que Galadriel a refusé par trois fois sa requête d’une mèche de ses cheveux. Le texte « The Shibboleth of Fëanor », publié en partie dans Contes et légendes inachevés et en totalité dans The Peoples of Middle-earth, décrit le caractère de Galadriel, « vigoureuse de corps et d’esprit, et ferme en son vouloir », « fière et forte et volontaire », dotée d’un « don merveilleux de pénétration », mais « miséricordieuse et compréhensive ».
Dans Le Seigneur des anneaux, J. R. R. Tolkien offre une autre description de Galadriel dans laquelle il apporte plus de détails sur son apparence physique et celle de son mari Celeborn :
« Ils étaient très grands, la Dame non moins grande que le Seigneur ; et leurs visages étaient graves et beaux. Tous deux étaient vêtus de blanc ; et la chevelure de la Dame était d’or foncé, et celle du seigneur Celeborn était d’argent, longue et brillante ; mais ils n’avaient pas d’âge, sinon dans la profondeur de leurs yeux ; car ceux-ci étaient vifs comme des lances sous les étoiles, mais aussi insondables que les puits d’une longue mémoire. » Tolkien.

Galadriel is an Elf with a Noldorin father and a Telerine mother. His ancestry is also partly Vanyarin through his paternal grandmother Indis, from whom he gets his blond hair, in which the Eldar see a reflection of the light of the Trees of Valinor. This perhaps inspired Fëanor to create the Silmarils, jewels in which the light of the Trees is preserved, after Galadriel refused three times his request for a lock of her hair. The text « The Shibboleth of Fëanor », published in part in Unfinished Tales and Legends and entirely in The Peoples of Middle-earth, describes the character of Galadriel, « vigorous in body and mind, and firm in her will », “proud and strong and willful”, endowed with a “wonderful gift of penetration”, but “merciful and understanding”.
In The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien offers another description of Galadriel in which he provides more details about her physical appearance and that of her husband Celeborn:
“They were very great, the Lady no less great than the Lord; and their faces were grave and beautiful. Both were dressed in white; and the Lady’s hair was dark gold, and Lord Celeborn’s hair was silver, long and shining; but they had no age, except in the depth of their eyes; for these were sharp as spears under the stars, but as unfathomable as the wells of a long memory. » Tolkien.
