Ce passage a suscit\u00e9 l&#8217;interrogation d\u00e8s l&#8217;Antiquit\u00e9 : on s&#8217;est demand\u00e9 pourquoi l&#8217;espoir \u00e9tait consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un mal et pourquoi il \u00e9tait cens\u00e9 rester dans la jarre, alors que les humains sont bel et bien capables d&#8217;esp\u00e9rer. On a sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 qu&#8217;\u00ab elpis \u00bb ne devait pas \u00eatre traduit par \u00ab espoir \u00bb, mais par \u00ab attente \u00bb, au sens d&#8217;attendre ce qui va advenir. Zeus aurait initialement pr\u00e9vu que les hommes non seulement souffrent des diff\u00e9rents maux, mais qu&#8217;ils s&#8217;attendent \u00e0 souffrir en permanence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Collier inox ambiance art nouveau, chaine inox et pendentif serti pierre Am\u00e9thyste. This passage has sparked debate since antiquity: people wondered why hope was considered an evil and why it was supposed to remain in the jar, when humans are indeed capable of hope. It has been suggested that &#8220;elpis&#8221; should not be translated as &#8220;hope,&#8221; but as &#8220;expectation,&#8221; in the sense of waiting for what will happen.
