Martha Jane Cannary ou Martha Cannary, plus connue sous le surnom de Calamity Jane, est une personnalit\u00e9 de la conqu\u00eate de l’Ouest n\u00e9e le 1er mai 1852 pr\u00e8s de Princeton dans le Missouri et morte le 1er ao\u00fbt 1903 \u00e0 Deadwood dans le Dakota du Sud.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir connu la notori\u00e9t\u00e9 de son vivant par sa participation \u00e0 la conqu\u00eate de l’Ouest et son r\u00f4le lors des guerres indiennes au cours desquelles elle s’est pr\u00e9tendue \u00e9claireur pour l’arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine avec le g\u00e9n\u00e9ral George Custer, elle devient le personnage principal d’un spectacle fond\u00e9 sur sa propre l\u00e9gende, le Wild West Show. Ce spectacle va accro\u00eetre cette l\u00e9gende du vivant de Calamity Jane, rendant ardue la t\u00e2che de la d\u00e9m\u00ealer de la r\u00e9alit\u00e9. Elle meurt pauvre, aveugle, alcoolique, mais toujours aussi c\u00e9l\u00e8bre, en 1903 \u00e0 Terry dans le Dakota du Sud.<\/p>\n
